A lot todo about twitter
4/05/2008So, twitter. Great little app which amuses many, baffles some, and downright kills some peoples work routine. I love twitter for many reasons - one being that you get to see what your peers, geeks with similar passions, and random strangers are doing.
I follow alot of designers/developers/entrepreneurs who just post random things, say - a link to an interesting site. Some of the time it doesn’t interest me as it is not involving my area. Then again sometimes people post some amazing links which you know you would never find on your own.
I initially started following all the big time players [shoemoney, tuaw etc] - but there posts had nothing to do with what I was interested in. Most were promoting blogs, showing how much they earned, advertising new sites etc - and it was just a new way to build up a reputation for them. Good for them like, as thats basically what twitter is now used for, networking. But I have realized that adding the big players just clogs up my twitter app. For now, i’ve nuked ‘em.
The twitter app I use is now snitter which is developed on the Adobe AIR… thing [platform sorry, total mind blank then]. Only found it a few days ago, but it is a refreshing change to twitterific, which was constantly clogged up with temporary overload posts, or advertisements. Snitter is a massive improvement, and it looks alot better too! - totally recommended. It was created by the Sidebar Network who’s site is nicely designed, and who also created Django Pluggables, which I will moochie round later to see what’s happening.
Only a few minutes ago I also stumbled across another twitter app for the iphone/touch - Hahlo … I firstly thought it had something to do with Halo, so skimmed past it. But after a blog post had a review on it, I checked it out.
As an iPod Touch person, new apps like this excite me. [How sad huh...] and this fulfilled all expectations. Its a web based twitter app which design lies native with handheld devices. Its a lovely little app which even has its own iphone/touch home screen icon. Point to Hahlo.
I guess tomorrow I will have a more indepth play with it to see if my initial thoughts are correct. I think they will be mind.
